As well as Hattah-Kulkyne National Park (Victoria) and Gluepot (South Australia)
Deb and I had a great birding trip. We birded every day, despite some mixed weather. We're definitely hardcore birders now!
We started at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park in the north-west of Victoria. We met up with my friend Bob and camped for a couple of nights at Lake Mournpall. Bob regailed us with stories of Apostle birds flocking around his feet. We didn't see any! But we did see lots of other birds. Here's a selection of those birds.
Then it was over the border into South Australia and the Birdlife Australia property of Gluepot. We arrived late in the afternoon and set up our tents at Sitella campground. That night it bucketed down, apparently about 17 ml! Gluepot lived up to it's name, with many roads muddy pools and closed. We headed to the nearby hides. The hides had lovely water troughs enabling you to get a close view of the birds, drinking or bathing in the water. But there was water everywhere so no birds at the troughs!
We did manage to do some birding around the campsite, at a couple of hides, then near the ranger station. The next day we managed to do some more birding along the roads before managing to drive out. Gluepot was closed due to the rain so we were lucky to get in and to get out! Here's a selection of the beautiful birds we saw at Gluepot, including a Splendid Fairy-wren.
a Brown Honeyeater
and a White-cheeked Honeyeater
We then headed to Dryandra. What a great spot. We founds some pretty birds and a total of 29 different species in an afternoon and morning. Here's a selection of the photos we saw.
